The Truth
Christ is King of Perryville! And everywhere else too…
Psalm 29:10 says, “The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever.”
Commentator, W.S. Plumer, notes:
God’s government is fixed. It cannot be subverted. Empires rise and decline, fall or vanish away, but His kingdom changes not. Others are sometimes strong and sometimes weak; but His possess all vigor and might, world without end. It endures forever. It includes all duration and all worlds. Even the waste of waters on which are seen no footprints of man or angel proclaims there is a God, who sitteth King forever. It is by God and by God alone that we live. All our strength is from Him.
In Ephesians 1:20-23, Paul states that God has raised Christ, the God-Man, equal with the Father, truly God and truly Man, from the dead and “seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
The Point
The point of all of this is that you and I cannot make Christ King of our lives, our city, our nation, the world, or the universe. He already is King. Nor can anyone unseat or overthrow His kingly rule. Christ is King and there is nothing anyone can do about this glorious reality.
As King, our Lord Jesus will have final supremacy over all of His foes. This includes demonic forces as well as all persons who have resisted His rule and sought to establish their own ways refusing to bow the knee to His righteous reign. That is, Christ will return one day to judge the Nations. This includes Perryville and every small town, village, and metropolis across the globe. Every single person, including you, will stand before Christ one day and be judged for every deed they’ve done, every motivation they’ve had, every word they have spoken, and every intention of their heart.
Those who do not measure up, those who do not have absolute holy perfection in all of their ways, will be cast into the Lake of Fire forever. Are you prepared for such a day? Is your family? Are your friends and neighbors?
The Hope
This reality ought to be alarming to anyone who understands their own sinful condition. Yet, there is hope in the Kingship of Christ.
You’ve broken His Holy Law. You’ve walked His earth, breathed His air, eaten His food, and enjoyed His creation — all while you are living in rebellion against His good rule. Therefore, the call to you today is not to “make Jesus Lord of your life.” You can’t; He already is.
The call is to repent of your lawbreaking and rebellion; to repent, turn away from, your sin and turn to Christ. See, our King humbled Himself by becoming Man, and being obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:5-11). He rose again on the 3rd day so that by faith in Him we can be justified (Romans 4:25). You don’t need to make Jesus Lord of your life. Instead, you need to surrender to Him as the King He is, in repentance and faith. Please don’t think you can come to Him on your terms. It must be His. The gate of salvation is not a negotiation table, but a Person. You must go through Christ to be saved. Bow in faith and repentance today!
Those who trust this good and gracious King by faith will be pardoned of all sin and credited with His righteousness so that when they stand before the King they will be allowed into eternal fellowship with God based on the merits of Christ.
